Equip Students with Tools for Success through A Gift For Teaching’s Back-to-School Drive
While Central Florida has seen a 1% decrease in its overall student population and number of homeless students in the area, the number of children in the free-and-reduced lunch program has risen by 2%. More children than ever need essential tools (like No. 2 pencils, loose-leaf paper, and crayons) to succeed in school. A Gift For Teaching is committed to providing these students with a head start for achievement by equipping them with school supplies.
As the 2017-2018 school year kicks off, A Gift For Teaching is already hard at work collecting classroom materials and financial donations through its Back-to-School Drive campaign. The goal of Back-to-School Drive is to not only provide for students during the months of August and September, but for the entire year. Companies, civic groups, and individuals are getting involved by hosting school supply drives for Orange County teachers’ most-requested items (No. 2 pencils, markers, crayons, pocket folders, and loose-leaf paper) and making financial contributions.
The cornerstone of the Back-to-School Drive campaign is an all-day telethon broadcast on Orlando’s News 6 WKMG on August 17, 2017. Two local foundations, The Bond Foundation and The Joe and Sarah Galloway Foundation, will generously match donations made during the broadcast. Normally, for every $1 donated, A Gift For Teaching can provide up to $10 worth of supplies, but for donations made during the telethon, they’ll be able to provide up to $20! To make a donation to the telethon, call 1-888-436-6665 or text “AGFT” to 243725 to give (standard text messaging rates apply).”
The Back-to-School Drive runs through September 16th. You can get involved by running your own supply drive or making a financial donation. Find more information on the A Gift For Teaching website: http://agiftforteaching.org/btsd.
