City of Orlando Employees Raise More Than $450,000 for Central Florida Charities through Workplace Giving Campaign

Orlando, FL (March 7, 2013) – Thanks to the generosity of City of Orlando employees, Mayor Buddy Dyer and City Commissioners made check presentations at last Monday’s City Council meeting totaling to $456,160 in donations to more than 530 local and national charity organizations. Through the City of Orlando’s Workplace Giving Campaign more than 1,400 employees participated in the 2012 fundraiser and surpassed the campaign’s $425,000 goal.

“The Workplace Giving Campaign is one of the many ways City employees show their commitment to the community and give back,” said Mayor Buddy Dyer. “I was extremely impressed by the dedicated hard working members of our City family, who for the second year in a row broke all records for charitable giving at City Hall.  Through their generous contributions, our employees are helping address some of the most critical issues facing Central Florida.”

Some local contributions included donations to:

  • Orlando Firefighters Benevolent Association Inc. – to support the health and welfare of firefighters and their families during times of hardship.
  • Harbor House of Central Florida – to provide shelter, counseling and other critical services for domestic violence survivors and their children.
  • Boy Scouts of America Central Florida Council – to help create an environment of community engagement, skills and confidence in children.
  • Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida Inc. – to fight hunger in Central Florida by providing food and other grocery products to those in need.

Donations also went to charities of the employee’s choice and major organizations including Heart of Florida United Way, America’s Charities, Independent Charities of America, Community Health Charities of America, Neighbor to Nation and Global Impact.
