Coronavirus Impact and Needs:

We have purchased all the necessary materials to get us through the coming week, but need your help to make sure we can continue to do so for as long as it’s needed. With over 70,000 residents in Montgomery County already at risk for hunger every day, we know the number is only going to rise, with the economic uncertainty that will surely follow. Please consider donating to Shepherd’s Table today and help us keep our services going for our community’s most vulnerable and at-risk populations. Every little bit helps! Learn more.

Shepherd's Table first opened on December 16, 1983 in a modest house behind the First Baptist Church in Silver Spring. We are proud to serve Montgomery County, MD and the Washington Metro region as the oldest and most comprehensive resource center for people experiencing homelessness or poverty.

In our 36-year history, we have never missed a day of service, providing a healthy, nutritious meal through compassion and hospitable service. Thus far in 20201, we have already served more than 120,000 meals, and anticipate serving over 125,000 meals before the end of the year. As the community's need has grown, we have continued to be a place where people who are hungry can access a hot, delicious meal without any questions asked.

More than 2,500 volunteers partner with us annually, sharing their time, talent and huge hearts to bring our mission to life, and to offer warmth, respect, friendship and support to our clients and meal guests.

Our Resource Center assists more than 100 clients each day, providing services such as mailing address, tokens, information and referral, crisis intervention, immigration assistance and other basic needs. Additionally, the resource center provides prescription assistance for clients in need of help paying for their medications, and provides access to PPE.

Our Clothes Closet provides seasonally-appropriate apparel, shoes and accessories to more than 100 individuals every week.  All the clothing is in excellent condition and helps to enhance the dignity and well-being of our guests and their families.

Our Eye Clinic is the only free clinic in Montgomery County, and the only program requiring eligibility. Patients can get a new pair of glasses each year, as long as they do not have vision insurance, are Montgomery County residents, and at least 18 years of age.

Shepherd's Table is a vital resource for individuals in need, and its work is accomplished through the efforts of a dedicated staff, hardworking volunteers, and thousands of supporters and donors.  We have established strong partnerships with local businesses, organizations, schools, foundations, and places of worship. These partnerships benefit not only Shepherd's Table's clients and guests, but also those who give generously of their time, talent and financial resources.
