Feed the Children

Each dollar donated provides $9 worth of food and resources for children and families who desperately need help in the U.S. and around the world.

Feed the Children

In the U.S. and around the world, Feed the Children distributed approximately 98.9 million pounds of food and essential household items valued at more than $494.5 million in fiscal year 2021. Through our partnerships and programs, our outreach to children and their families benefited approximately eight million people in the U.S. and more than two million internationally for a total of 10 million people globally.

In the United States we distribute product donations of food and other essential items from corporate donors through our network of local community partners, we provide classroom support and school supplies to students in vulnerable areas and we mobilize resources quickly to aid recovery efforts when natural disasters strike.

Feed the Children operates five Teacher Store locations—in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Chandler, Arizona; Elkhart, Indiana; La Vergne, Tennessee and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma—that offer free school materials and books to educators in qualifying schools in all five states and a portion of Michigan. In fiscal year 2021, we hosted visits from more than 29,500 teachers at qualifying Title I schools and provided more than $2.8 million worth of classroom and school supplies as well as books valued at more than $4 million to potentially benefit an estimated 803,500 students across 482 school districts.

With the help of our community partners, Feed the Children also responded in fiscal year 2021 to hardship in the wake of Hurricanes Laura, Sally and Delta, the wildfires that ravaged California and other western states, the springtime outbreak of tornadoes and thunderstorms across the southeastern U.S. as well as the winter’s historic arctic blast. As families struggled with these crises, we distributed more than 2.1 million pounds of food and supplies across the country valued at more than $5.6 million to aid communities in their recovery efforts.

In the eight countries where we work—El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, Malawi, the Philippines, Tanzania and Uganda—Feed the Children’s child-focused community development programming seeks to transform lives by improving the food and nutritional security of mothers and children while reducing malnutrition and poverty in their communities.

In fiscal year 2021 in these countries, more than 35 million meals were served to school-age children at meal centers we support. Because the first 1,000 days of children’s lives are crucial to their future development and potential, Feed the Children has focused on improving the nutritional status of children under two years of age as well as that of pregnant women and women who are nursing. More than 225,000 female Care Group members in our international network were central to this effort in fiscal year 2021. Their knowledge and leadership helped more than 71,000 children receive Vitamin A supplements, 77,000 children receive deworming medicine, more than 3,000 children benefit from growth monitoring and more than 85,000 individuals participate in Village Savings and Loan groups.

In addition, our water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programming helped keep families in our international communities safe from potentially life-threatening waterborne illnesses, and nearly 319,000 households gained access to safe drinking water in the areas where we are active. Also in 2021, more than 89,000 gardens flourished across our international communities, and more than 192,000 individuals benefited from garden projects and our programming in garden education.
