About Us

As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity, America’s Charities mission is to mobilize the power of giving to improve the world.  Our vision is to create a shared culture of impactful giving.

What We Do and Who We Serve

We bring nonprofits, employers, and employees from all sectors together to bring about collective social good. From nonprofit organizations to Fortune 500 enterprises and international corporations, nearly 100 charities and more than 200 private and public sector employers use America's Charities services and solutions for workplace giving, Employee Assistance Funds, volunteer campaigns, charitable funds management and distribution, and scholarship award program management.

As a trusted advisor, intermediary and implementing partner for these stakeholders of social change, America’s Charities has raised and distributed more than $900 million for more than 25,000 nonprofits globally and managed more than $30 million in grants designated to help employees impacted by disasters and other emergencies that create financial hardship.

Each year, America’s Charities applies on behalf of its nonprofit members to secure their participation in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), state and local campaigns, and private sector campaigns across the country, expanding their access to more potential donors while also providing donor and financial management services designed to lower nonprofit administrative and fundraising costs. The workplace giving, matching gift, and volunteer programs we manage each year for corporate, federal, state, and local government employers, provide a critical source of unrestricted, sustainable funding and volunteer resources that nonprofits rely on each year to keep their doors open and address a wide range of causes including education, environmental protection, human and civil rights, hunger, poverty, research and health services, animal welfare, veteran assistance, and disaster relief. Our Employee Assistance Fund programs and services provide employers increased flexibility around the types of hardships their funds can cover, lower their administrative burdens, and help employees afford unexpected costs incurred as a result of events like medical emergencies, natural disasters, and many other difficult situations.

Why Our Work With You Matters

The nonprofit sector plays a vital role in the social and economic well-being of the United States. Generating about 5.6% of the American GDP and contributing between $1-$1.5 trillion to the nation’s economy each year, the more than 1.8 million nonprofit organizations registered in the U.S. feed, heal, shelter, educate, inspire, enlighten, and nurture our nation’s communities. Many of the things we all expect and enjoy on a daily basis would not be possible without the nonprofit sector. The majority of U.S. charitable giving (about 60%-70% of total annual donations) is from individuals and an estimated $5 billion of those annual donations are generated from workplace giving campaigns each year. Add to that the estimated $2-$3 billion that is donated through employer-sponsored matching gift programs annually, and that is a significant amount of nonprofit resources being generated from the workplace. Without that critical supply of sustainable funding, many nonprofits would be forced to close their doors, causing a devastating ripple effect across communities in the US and around the world.

Furthermore, with 63% of U.S. employees unable to cover a $500 emergency expense and 22% of U.S. adults having no emergency savings at all, employers are increasingly looking for ways to support the workforce and are turning to America's Charities Employee Assistance Fund programs and services to support employees in times of distress and hardship.

America’s Charities services and solutions uniquely provide nonprofits, employers and their employees the necessary cross-sector infrastructure, technology, and expertise required for addressing society’s greatest challenges and needs.

Our Story

Empowering employers and their employees to help each other and the community around them is at the heart of everything America’s Charities does - and it's what guides our mission to mobilize the power of giving to improve the world. In our vision to create a shared culture of impactful giving, we continuously strive to provide easier and better ways for our partners and social change stakeholders to meet the moment's greatest needs.

1980

America’s Charities was founded in 1980 when four nonprofits seeking more inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign (the world’s largest workplace giving campaign at the time) asked us to represent them and get them included as a charitable choice.

2002

In 2002, a group of about 16 private sector employers asked us to manage their workplace giving campaigns so they could provide their employees with an easier, more inclusive and convenient way to support their favorite charities and causes. To manage those campaigns and facilitate payroll giving efficiently, America’s Charities became one of the first organizations to bring an online giving solution to workplace giving with our PledgeFirst technology.

2015

Starting in 2015, we phased out our original PledgeFirst giving solution and partnered with various technology providers to offer our clients more state-of-the-art donation and giving capabilities, as well as to position our organization’s product offerings to more easily scale and grow with client needs. Today, we are proud to offer America’s Charities Engage Solution powered by Smart Simple Cloud, a business process solution that helps employers manage all corporate philanthropy and workplace giving programs on one platform.

2019

In 2019, we launched our Employee Assistance Fund (EAF) program and services, building on our existing core competencies and infrastructure. We saw the need for proactive solutions to help the growing number of people impacted by rising income and cost inequity and the challenge of meeting everyday expenses when confronted with an unexpected financial hardship. Within our first year of launching this new service, we facilitated 100 Employee Assistance Funds (EAFs) and processed more than $16 million in grants designated to help employees facing personal financial hardship due to unexpected events such as a COVID-19, medical emergency, a natural disaster, death of a loved one and many other difficult situations.

2022

In November 2022, America’s Charities unveiled its newest service offering: a Scholarship Program designed to make policy development and the application and grant administration process easier for organizations to deliver educational opportunities for students, support professional advancement for employees, and build a better-educated workforce for the community.
