AUSTIN – For the past 25 years, State of Texas employees have embraced supporting fellow Texans through the annual State Employee Charitable Campaign.
Since 1993, State, higher education, and retired employees in Texas have contributed more than $175 million to charities providing services that improve communities. Employees have provided meals to hungry children, service dogs for our veterans, supported cancer survivors, and more, all through their contributions to participating charities.
“State employees dedicate their time and talents each day to serve our state, and many also volunteer with local organizations. Through the SECC, these hard-working Texans continue to give back, further strengthening the communities in which they work and live,” commented Carolyn Beck, 2018 SECC State Policy Committee Chair.
The State Employee Charitable Campaign is the only statutorily authorized workplace campaign for state agency employees throughout Texas. Created by the Legislature, the SECC offers employees of state agencies, junior and community colleges, universities, and retirees the benefit of giving to many of their favorite charities through an annual workplace giving campaign. Employees can contribute to one or more of the 1,300+ local and statewide charities that are working to ensure that all Texas neighborhoods and communities thrive.
“We are grateful that the Legislature created the SECC 25 years ago and are proud to have supported this valuable effort of connecting state employees with local community charities,” said Adrianna Cuéllar Rojas, President and CEO of United Ways of Texas. “We’re excited that through the SECC, state employees choose to invest their hard-earned money in the communities they serve.”
Last year, 31,000 employees contributed through the SECC accounting for $7.1 million contributed to food banks, homeless or domestic violence shelters, job training programs targeting veterans, and other community programs. On average, employees gave an annual gift of $233. These charitable contributions translated directly to increased community services to keep Texans healthy, safe, and strong.
Texas has a history of generous giving to charities and state employee contributions through SECC helps keep Texas growing. SECC’s growth will mean that more state employees will have the opportunity to invest in their neighborhoods and communities in the years ahead.
