Congressman Lance Visits The Reeve Foundation Neurorecovery Network

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation and Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation came together with Congressman Lance to listen and learn from participants and advocates on the impact of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation Paralysis Resource Center programs.

On Wednesday, February 18th, leadership from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation met with Congressman Leonard Lance at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, a Reeve Foundation NeuroRecovery Network® (NRN) center based in West Orange, New Jersey. The goal of the event was to show the Congressman the impact of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) in his District and throughout New Jersey, as well as thank him for his continued support for the programs that are making a difference in the daily lives of our community members.

The Congressman was able to see firsthand both the rehabilitation and quality of life programs offered through the PRC. After exploring the NRN facility, the Congressman connected with participants and therapists on emerging therapies and reviewed the benefits of activity-based exercises. A highlight of the tour included an introduction to locomotor training: A type of therapy designed to help participants “remember” the pattern of walking while suspended in a harness over a treadmill, as specially-trained therapists move their legs.
