Provide Safe and Stable Housing for #GivingTuesday with Rebuilding Together Alexandria

Children learn better, families achieve more, and everyone is healthier in safe and stable housing. But many of our neighbors are living on the brink in unsafe homes.

For 28 years, Rebuilding Together Alexandria has been working in the community to provide free home repairs to those residents who simply do not have the means to maintain their homes. They have worked on more than 1,700 projects and are grateful for these accomplishments that donors have made possible. On #GivingTuesday, consider making a tax-deductible donation to Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s Emergency Repair Fund to help replenish the fund and meet their goal of raising $25,000.  This past year the Emergency Repair Fund allowed Rebuilding Together Alexandria to serve the immediate needs of their most vulnerable homeowners, including Caroline and Mark.

Now in their 80s, Caroline and Mark have lived in their Alexandria home for 42 years. With their annual social security benefits less than $30,000, they were unable to repair a plumbing leak that started in the upstairs bathroom, doing major ceiling damage to their kitchen below.  Along with these repairs, Rebuilding Together installed an interior chair lift, making it easier for them to move around their home.

But there is so much more to be done. From the road you may not see the realities of Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s clients’ struggles, but the average annual income of their clients is just $27,242 a year. Once the costs of food, transportation, and medical bills are covered, there simply isn’t anything left for home repair and maintenance. Without the services of Rebuilding Together, there are few options available to residents to keep their homes warm and dry – and ultimately safe places to live.
