JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF NEW YORK ANNOUNCES NEW FUNDING FOR THE 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR

[NEW YORK, NY] –Thanks to the generosity of seven corporate and foundation funders, more than 200 NYC and Long Island schools will receive critical volunteer and program resource support to kick-off the new school year – from New York City’s most trusted provider of economic and business education for K-12 students – Junior Achievement of New York. Nearly $300,000 in general operating and programmatic grant support was awarded to JA to fund volunteer and program delivery of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and college and career-readiness programs to NYC and Long Island students. JA programs provide young people with vital skills required for success in the 21st Century global economy.

“Corporate and foundation partners who invest in the education of young people are also investing in the future economic stability and vitality of the NYC and Long Island communities,” said Joseph Peri, President of JA New York. Junior Achievement programs are delivered free of cost to high need schools and community organizations.

We are grateful to the following funders for investing in the achievement of future business and community professionals of New York City and Long Island:

BBCN Bank awarded $15,000 to provide JA Ourselves, JA Our Families and JA Our Communities to 355 K-2 grade students attending PS2 Alfred Zimberg Elementary School (Queens). Students will learn basic economics and money management concepts such as the difference between needs and wants, the roles their families and people in their communities play in an economy, and how money flows in their neighborhoods.

BNY Mellon provided $30,000 to provide career exploration and development education to New York City and Long Island students. More than 600 students in 30 classes will participate in JA Careers for Success and JA Job Shadow programs thanks to this generous gift.

Capital One provided $25,000 to fund a feasibility study exploring the possibility of a permanent JA Finance Park facility in NYC.

JPMorgan Chase Foundation generously awarded $35,000 to support the delivery of JA It’s My Business to 1,875 students in 75 classrooms throughout New York City and Long Island.

PSEG provided $15,000 to deliver the JA Our Nation program to 725 students in 33 classrooms across New York City and Long Island.

The NASDAQ OMX Educational Foundation generously provided $100,000 to support the 2015 Business Plan Competition.

NYSE Euronext Foundation provided a $50,000 general operating gift for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
