Veteran’s Support Group Honors CPL Executive Director & Founder
What brings a fallen hero back from the brink, when they have given everything they have (and beyond) to defend our country’s safety and basic freedoms, and yet think they have nothing left to live for? How do they adapt to the changes in their lives and transition to a meaningful life back at home? More and more the answer to those searing questions is – by being partnered with a service dog. For organizations such as Cochranville’s Canine Partners for Life (CPL), which provides highly trained service dogs for individuals with physical disabilities, partnering a service dog with a veteran is a logical step. A number of veterans already have CPL service dogs and have seen their lives (physically and emotionally) transformed by the love and support of these extraordinary dogs.
In recognition of CPL’s Executive Director and Founder Darlene Sullivan’s efforts to provide veterans with highly trained service dogs, the ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office), recently honored Ms. Sullivan with one of its most prestigious awards, the Seven Seals. The CPL service dog team of Ed Afanador and his dog, Arnie, was on hand to support Ms. Sullivan and answer questions. Mr. Afanador (Wounded Warrior Project) was disabled in the aftermath of 9/11 when he participated in recovery efforts.
