America’s Charities Joins Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce
CHANTILLY, Virginia – America’s Charities is the newest member of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce.
For over 30 years, America’s Charities has connected some of the nation’s most respected companies and organizations with more than 100 of the best-loved, most trusted charities seeking a better way to engage businesses and individual donors through workplace philanthropy. America’s Charities has raised more than $573 million unrestricted dollars for charities since its inception in 1980. The organization continues to grow its membership, donations and stature by advocating for broader choice in giving, by serving as a change agent addressing how companies approach donor-driven workplace giving campaigns, and by helping businesses emerge in their unique roles as socially-responsible, corporate leaders.
“We are driven to be the best partner to our member charities, to employers in the public and private sectors, and to individual donors,” explained president and chief executive officer Steve Delfin. “We are proud to join the Fairfax County Chamber’s 600+ members who share our dedication in serving the community around us.”
“Just as the Fairfax County Chamber has evolved to meet the needs of the business community by offering a unique blend of programs and services that meet the needs of business in the current market, America’s Charities enthusiastically welcomes the opportunity to share our industry expertise and form sustainable, supportive relationships with other chamber members who want to help others and instill greater value in the community through workplace philanthropy, employee engagement initiatives, and other means of social responsibility,” he added.
While overall national economic conditions remain stagnant, causing many of this nation’s charities to experience the worst decline in donations in two decades, America’s Charities’ members are experiencing growth and stability in workplace campaigns and in the overall philanthropic marketplace.
Giving through America’s Charities has had robust increases over the past several years even though overall giving as tracked by the Giving USA Foundation was stagnant. While the overall market remained flat for a second year in a row – rising by just 0.9 percent after inflation in 2011, giving through America’s Charities is up 6 percent, once again outpacing the market and providing our members with sustainable, unrestricted funds. This success is driven by America’s Charities’ commitment to transparency and trust, and a result of our philosophy that the lifeblood of charitable organizations is unrestricted funding from individual donors who get to choose where those unrestricted funds are designated.
With members encompassing nationally-recognized charities including Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America, Ronald McDonald House Charities®, Feeding America, Teach for America, Reading is Fundamental, Junior Achievement, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, to more locally-focused charities such as A Wider Circle, Miriam’s Kitchen, Food for Others, Inc., and Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), America’s Charities provides its members with exposure to nearly 10 million public and private sector employees annually through workplace giving initiatives presented by state and local governments, as well as companies including Lockheed Martin, ExxonMobil Corporation, Credit Union National Association, National Geographic Society, SAIC, AARP, Washington Gas, Legal & General, and many more.
