Celebrate Giving…the CFC Way, the American Way!

The Combined Federal Campaign celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Since the first campaign was authorized by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, more than one million Federal employees annually have directed almost $7 billion to their favorite charities. The uniformed and civilian women and men in the DoD are a cornerstone of that generosity responsible for over $3 billion in donations since that time according to the Department’s Voluntary Campaigns Management Director, Mr. Louis Torchia. In the National Capital Area alone, DoD employees account for more than $17 million (just under 30 percent) of the total pledged.

As a donor and Federal employee, you can feel good about your donations because the CFC has three qualities that make it a preferred method for supporting charities: Efficiency. Effectiveness. Accountability.

These qualities mean that CFC has an enduring and living legacy of helping people help others in their neighborhoods, nation and around the world. Because of that, more and more charities look toward this low-cost, efficient and effective channel as a way to collect much needed funding.

This year, more than 20,000 organizations meet the regulatory requirements put forth by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in overseeing the campaign. This list includes more than 150 organizations that directly serve members of the military and military families. Organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project, Fisher House, Operation Homefront, TAPS, USO, American Red Cross and more are on the list. Gifts made through the CFC to these and thousands of other qualified charities will assure that services are there for people who really need help and the organizations which serve them in the community where you live, where you work or where you direct your charitable dollars.

As a Federal employee, you are committed to the public service of helping Americans, America and America’s charities. The CFC is your opportunity to extend that mission to help others even more. Once a year, the CFC volunteer comes around and asks you to pledge a gift to your favorite charities. Please consider making this special anniversary year the time that you join them and make a pledge to your favorite charity through CFC.
