America's Charities Treasurer
Gibbs stepped down as CFO of Feeding America to move with her husband to Colorado, and is now heading her own consulting practice for non-profits, Mission Accomplished. Janet’s primary expertise includes enhancing financial performance, leadership development, Board relationships and reporting, general operations and management, and business process improvement. She enjoys fixing broken processes and organizations, rebuilding staff performance, and bringing credibility and transparency to the financial and operational aspects of organizations.
For the organization looking for thought leadership, out of the box thinking, an ability to see patterns and connections in seemingly disparate ideas, and a natural capacity to build trust, Janet Gibbs brings the strength of character to ask the tough questions, the vision to take calculated risk, and the gut instincts to get it right. Janet’s non-profit executive career, spanning nearly 30 years, includes numerous decisions she championed that changed the course of business for the organizations she has served.
In her 18 year career in higher education, Janet spearheaded several public/private partnerships that resulted in significant capital and operational improvements for the campuses and students with little or no out of pocket cost to the university. One striking example was the construction of a fully functional ice arena in a campus athletic and entertainment facility, paid for by an ECHL hockey team that used the facility as their home court. This not only brought significant new revenue to the university, it also opened the doors to ice-related entertainment for students and the community.
She previously served as Associate Executive Director and CFO of the America Bar Association, Senior Vice President for Finance and CFO for Loyola University Chicago, Vice President of Business & Finance and Treasurer at Wright State University, and Controller of The Ohio State University. Gibbs has also held Board roles at Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Asian Human Services, many professional associations, and is a member of Women in the Boardroom. Gibbs maintains her Certified Public Accountant designation (non-practicing) and received her MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her BBA from the University of Cincinnati.
